Gordon Connelly
Starring in... V8 Power

At first the name Gordon Connelly may not grab your attention, but keep a close lookout on this guy as he may be the next Schumacher. Gordon is one of the South African hopefuls who are looking to make the big time on the Formula One circuit overseas.

What started out as a hobby racing Go Karts, soon became an adrenaline addiction and Gordon started entering the Formula GTI championships and racing single seater cars. This proved a highly successful endeavour with Gordon winning the championship two years in a row in 2004 and 2005.

Currently Gordon is currently ranked second in the Wesbank V8 series. Needing only 13 points from two races, Gordon is determined to take the championship . Racing his 580 horsepower Jaguar at speeds of up to 310 km/h may not always sit comfortably with his mom but it has certainly gotten him noticed in this country and his dedicated team are making every effort to get him the chance he needs overseas next year.

If Gordon is successful in raising the necessary funds, he will be entering the Formula Renault series and racing with the Manor Motorport Team in Spain and the UK next year. This is the same team that catapulted Kimi Raikonnen into the Formula One scene a few years ago.

Of course this will mean giving up his Vorna Valley home in Midrand for a while. “I’ll miss relaxing at Titlianos,” says Gordon, a favourite Italian restaurant near Kyalami. “Midrand has been a quiet, peaceful area to grow up in and I have loved living here for the past 11 years, however building a name overseas and working with a team that know how to build cars is going to be my top priority now.”

Gordon is no newcomer to the Manor Motorsport Team. On previous occasions while competing with the cream of world motorsports young and upcoming talent, he proved to be 3rd fastest in test sessions. With help, Gordon hopes to raise the necessary funding to secure his future in the highest level of motorsport. Additional investments are being sourced.
